work on the netw0rk begins

February 15th, 2006

The Contraband-Network is finally having some life pumped into it after my wallet grudgingly pumped cash into it.

The Contraband-Network is going to, at first, be a small network of sites focusing on various categories of entertainment - namely contraband-music, contraband-film and contraband-games. Should all go well and dandy with these original sites then sites based on slightly different avenues may well be added, but I'm not planning on getting too far ahead of myself.

I've gotta get a place-holder page up at www.contraband-network.co.uk first and similar pages for the initial three sites in the network. Of course while those initial pages just hold a place, I'm planning to come up with a fairly simple but functional design. Nothing too fancy, just something that says what it needs to say, where it needs to say it.

After that I've got to start work on content, which also means recruiting staff members to help 'cos I won't be able to fill all the requirements of each site by my onesies. There will be a little more on the staff recruitment front later once I have some more of the initial site designs worked out.

Hopefully I'll be able to sling a few more details up on here soon.

boredom breeds... well, boredom, really...

February 11th, 2006

It's true, I should know. You have no fucking idea how bored I am. I mean, I'm talking about it to you! Sorry, that wasn't nice. My sincerest apologies, honestly. But it does prove the point quite adequetly. Here I am, talking on the internet, insulting no one particular person, such is my desperation to waste time. My life has become a series of futz sessions (before you say it, yes - "futz" really is a word, and no, it isn't anything that includes self-abuse of a sexual nature. I know where your head was at).

Motivation appears to be something my brain wants nothing to do with at the moment, because I can't get a single thing going. Which is horrible if you're someone who considers themself to be creative. Which I injudiciously do.

I'm told it's called "writers block", but I've decided that a far more felicitous term for the condition would be "shit".

It always seems to strike me down whenever I have the most time to concentrate on my work too. This is such a regular occurance that I'm beginning to think it may just be the fact that I am, at heart, completely and utterly bone-idle. Hence I have an awful lot of work that is started but is as of this moment in time, unfinished. Not exactly an aggressively ardent attitude towards one's profession.

In summary; I should have been a plumber. They earn more than the average writer and need no motivation to fix a busted sink.

pretty in pink?

September 25th, 2005

Coming to you live, from my chemically induced dizzy spell... No, I'm not on drugs, before you make assumptions. I have been spraying my girlfriend's PC a new colour instead of that horrible slightly "off-cream" colour they used to make ALL PC's in.

Having put built to thing into some kind of Frankenstein of a computer from old parts I had due to previous upgrades of my own computer, she decided that it was also ugly, so we are in the process of respraying the whole thing pink. So far, it actually looks cooler than you'd think. A lot better than the tacky cases you can buy that are royal blue with fake chrome trimmings or those god-awful Alienware things. Cheesiest machines ever. No no, my girlfriend's pc actually looks quite pimped, if I do say so myself. All that's left now is the monitor, and possibly some detail to the side of it and on the keyboard in black or something. I'll post some pics when it's done.

too early, too tired, too broke.

September 17th, 2005

The title says it all. It's only jus past nine in the morning here in the South West of the UK, and I'm too tired to really be awake. But, regardless of this fact, I have to be, to go to my depressingly unfulfilling job at GAME in Yeovil. Where I get so many hours that my cash-flow is just out of control. Or not, as the case is.

Still, I'll agree with myself to soldier on. Maybe Paul is working, and can tell me how much I need a tablet PC. Which is true. I do have uses for one, I do want one, but it's a lot of money to be just throwing around and I have to think about it sensibly. Even if every molecule in my body is just telling me to go for it, there are money considerations to take into account (see "too broke" in the title above). I'd have to be able to put away around £100 a month, and I'm not remotely guaranteed any specific amount of money on a monthly basis (see "so many hours" above).

Anyway, time to go to work. Maybe I'll post again a bit later to talk about how horrible it all was. Maybe I'll have made a decision on the tablet PC. 'Maybe's' are strange things...

  • Fat Zombie is the alter-(internet-dwelling)-ego of Chris, a young lad from South West England. He's angry, sarcastic and normally doesn't have much to do, which is why you can find his thoughts on this very blog. He considers himself primarily a writer (which he occasionally gets paid to do), with a part-time job to fund said literary career. If you'd like more detailed information about him, you can get bent. Alternatively you can ask him via his e-mail address found at Xbox 360 Degrees, a gaming website on which his writing is featured.
